Pengaruh Penambahan Gas Klor Sebagai Desinfektan Coliform dan Eschericia Coli Pada Pengolahan Air Minum

South Sumatra, especially Palembang City, its people use Musi River water for their daily activities. However Musi River water is currently polluted, because of the large amount of waste that is dumped into the river, causing the water contains bacteria, so it is not suitable for direct consumption, unless the water is processed into usable water. Bacteria found in water were coliform and Escherichia coli bacteria, which have a bad impact when get into the body. In drinking water treatment, disinfectant used is chlorine gas. Therefore, conducted research to determine the effect of adding chlorine gas on bacterial removal in water treatment process with Petrifilm E. Coli Count Plate method. The analysis showed the coliform and Escherichia coli bacteria content in raw water respectively was 25 and 15 per 100 gram sample. After flowing chlorine gas in the flocculation, aeration, filtration, and clean water tanks, colifrom and Escherichia coli bacteria content in water was 0 per 100 ml of sample. These results have met the standard requirements for drinking water quality according to Permenkes No. 492/Menkes/Per/IV/2010 concerning Drinking Water Quality Requirements, that the amount of biological parameters for coliform bacteria and Escherichia coli is 0 per 100 ml sample. Therefore, addition of chlorine gas was effective as a disinfectant to reduce coliform and Escherichia coli bacteria in the drinking water treatment process.
