Coal is a heterogeneous substance that contains of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen as the main elements and sulfur and nitogen as additional elements. To find out the nitrogen content in coal, the ultimate analysis can be done using the CHN Analyzer. Nitrogen levels can affect the quality of coal. the parameters for determining the quality of coal is Hardgrove Grandibility Index (HGI) and calorific value. From the analysis, there is correlation that the increasing in nitrogen levels will increase the HGI and calorific value. Correlation value for nitrogen and calorific value is 0.391 while for nitrogen and HGI is 0.317.
