Insect pests can reduce production, reduce crop quality, interfere with plant physiological processes so that crop yields are not optimal. This research is a descriptive survey research in the area of palawija plantations in Kuranji District, Padang City. The purpose of this study was to calculate the diversity of insect pests in three palawija plantation areas in Kuranji District, Padang City. The sampling method was carried out by the relative method. Sampling was carried out once in two weeks during the reproductive period (flowers and fruit had appeared) by installing light traps, nets, adhesive yellow traps and traps, then insects were collected and identified to the genus level by referring to the identification books written by Achtenberg (1991), Siwi (1991),  Borror dan White (1970), and Kalshoven (1981). Data were analyzed by analysis of relative density and diversity index of Shanon Wiener (Suin, 2001). The results showed that the diversity of insect pests in secondary crops in Kuranji District, Padang City was in the medium category
